Praeludium I

Audio for this Style Algorithm. The sheet music.

Bach's original.

The Praeludium I Style Algorithm attempts to recreate in spirit, at least, JS Bach's original “Praeludium I in C-Major” from his Well-Tempered Clavier.

It does this by mimicking the contours of Bach's original without trying to actually generate any of the harmonic or melodic qualities that made Bach who he was. A more complicated version of this style algorithm could replicate all the structural elements and even recreate the form while leaving the specifics to be generated by the software. But here we just have something very simple.

You can specify the number of measures to be used, the instrument, the scale (though C-Major keeps it closer to Bach's original) and even the tuning. We're not exactly sure what Bach meant by “Well-Tempered” but we are fairly certain that he was using a tuning other than the standard of his day. He was friends with noted theoretician Werckmeister so for this example I have used one of his tunings.
