Gertrude Stein Poetry

Gertrude Stein Poetry example.

This Style Algorithm attempts to superficially simulate the poetry of Gertrude Stein. Particularly her use of repetition and homophones. The results are nonsensical as opposed to just sometimes difficult to parse (Stein’s actual poetry).

The software has a list of homophones and for each homophone a number of common phrases that uses that word. A word is chosen randomly along with two phrases that use that word. Then a phrase is chosen for the homophonous word.

At this point a poem is constructed by choosing either one of the two words, one of the three phrases, or one of the phrases with the other homophonous word used in place of the phrase’s original word. This is repeated for as many poems as you want.

This is a rather brutish method and I hope to improve upon it in time.
